The metal frame is covered with strips of lacquered bamboo, while the seat and backrest are handwoven wicker.

The Wassily Chair, inspired by the frame of a bicycle and influenced by the constructivist theories of the De Stijl movement, was conceived by Marcel Breuer while he was still an apprentice at the Bauhaus. By reducing the classic club chair to its elemental lines and planes, Breuer forever changed the course of furniture design.

This particular version, produced in a very limited edition for the Dutch luxury department store "De Bijenkorf" in the early 1970s, combines the iconic modernist design with natural materials, giving it a warm and organic character rarely seen in other editions. See less
