A richly glazed antique Chinese garden stool in a classic barrel or drum form, dating to the late Qing Dynasty or Early Republic period (circa 1900-1930). Made from terracotta with a brilliant cobalt blue glaze, the stool features molded raised dot motifs painted in black, arranged in rhythmic patterns around the body, along with cut-out handles formed in the traditional mask motif – both hallmarks of Chinese garden seats produced for domestic and export use during this era.
The high-fired glaze has subtle pooling and variation, with areas of fine craquelure and kiln character that speak to its age and handcrafted nature. The unglazed base reveals the iron-rich clay body, consistent with southern Chinese kiln production.
