In typical period fashion, the trumeau has tastefully carved Rococo-style molding which surrounds the double stacked mercury glass mirrors (since glass was unable to be made in large sheets at the time) and a painting above that expresses a romantic vision of the French garden. The fantastic oil painting shows excellent talent to depict the dreamy scene of a garden urn with pastel blossoms and a variety of birds. Most likely this trumeau was a part of a custom wall design or boiserie in an elegant salon. Please view the detailed images to see more, as the glass has developed patches of dark foxing and glittering crystals along the edges. See less
