Dimensions: 114″H x 47″W
A large, stunning trumeau mirror dating back to the Louis XV period in France, c. 1760s. Typical of the period, the trumeau has tastefully carved Rococo-style molding which surrounds the double stacked mercury glass mirrors (since glass was unable to be made in large sheets at the time) and a painting above that expresses a romantic vision of the French garden. The fantastic oil painting shows excellent talent to depict the dreamy scene of a garden urn with pastel blossoms and a variety of birds. Most likely this trumeau was a part of a custom wall design or boiserie. Please view the detailed images to see more, as the glass has developed patches of dark foxing and glittering crystals along the edges.
