A beautiful example of French decorative craftsmanship, this round lidded box combines elegant design with historical charm. Crafted in pierced gilt bronze with Neoclassical motifs, suggesting this box may have once held potpourri, the cylindrical body features alternating vertical bands of floral garlands and architectural columns in high relief, lending it a regal, architectural presence.

The lid is adorned with vivid royal blue guilloche enamel, radiating with depth and luminosity beneath a finely wrought decorative border. At the center, a hand-painted miniature portrait of a young lady in a powdered wig and plumed hat — likely a courtesan or noblewoman of the Louis XVI court — is framed under convex glass and encircled by beaded trim and applied ribbon-and-garland ormolu details.

Lifting the lid reveals a mirror inset in the top interior, suggesting this box may have once held potpourri or small personal effects or cosmetics. The bottom is stamped simply “FRANCE,” dating the piece to the early 20th century, most likely circa 1900–1920, in the style of 18th-century revival work.
