This listing is for an incredible piece of Arts & Crafts history.
This clock was designed by Pál (Paul) Horti and was manufactured in "The Shop of the Crafters" in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Horti (1865-1907) was a Hungarian- born artist that pioneered modern applied arts.
The Shop of the Crafters was the creation of Oscar Onken. Onken (1858 – 1948) was an Ohio based American entrepreneur. Onken was heavily influenced by Gustav Stickley and other Arts & Crafts furniture designers.
Oscar Onken was inspired by Pál Horti’s avant-garde furniture designs at the Louisiana Purchase International Exposition and hired him to design furniture for his shop.
This clock is one of the creations of this partnership.
This clock is the "Manchester" model. It is made from mahogany, featuring Egyptian revival motifs of papyrus flower inlay in colored Austrian woods.
Original paper label is on the reverse.
Weights and pendulum included.
