This Extra Large Edo Era Japanese painted 6-Panel Byobu (screen) was damaged in transit and needs major restoration on hinges/joints, edges of the panels and back. Some repairs can be done on the silk border.
This antique byobu depicts beautiful river landscape with scenes of life of Samurai. According to the research of Japanese art experts this screen was painted by Edo Era court painter Mitsutaka Tosamori, and signed by Tosakami Mitsutaka, a person associated with the court painting office. Tosa School (court noble school of Yamato-e). Japan, Edo Era, late 18th - 19th century. Gouache, watercolor and ink on paper. Silk brocade border. Lacquered black wood frame with bronze corners. Paper on back.
Fair condition for age - extensive age wear overall, water damage, stains, damaged hinges/joints, rips, tears and losses, lacquer is pilling off the frame due to age, some old and recent repairs. Needs restoration.
