A rare example of Swatow Ware, this hand-crafted ceramic bowl dates to the Late Ming Dynasty with possible origins related to the southern coastal kilns of Zhangzhou, China where Swatow ware is believed to have originated. Known for their expressive brushwork and rustic charm, Swatow ceramics were primarily made for export across Southeast Asia and Europe, making surviving examples especially collectible.
This bowl features a classic wide-rimmed form with a creamy glaze and iron-brown hand-painted decoration, likely representing stylized flora or marine forms. The glaze shows significant craquelure and mineral staining, consistent with its age. The base is unglazed with an exposed foot ring and visible kiln grit, typical of late Ming export ware.
