Stunning vintage Japanese 4-panel folding painted Byobu (screen) in Ukiyo-e Style depicting a lovely scene with beautiful young ladies in a room of a palace or big house, decorated with large floor byobu (screens), playing most likely Hyakunin Isshu, the old Japanese game. Gouache, watercolor and ink on paper. Silk border. Lacquered red wood frame with engraved copper corners and medallions showing age patina. Paper and original labels on back. Found in France. Excellent condition - minor age wear overall, scratches on frame, couple dents on back; strong hinges, clean, sturdy. Japan, Shōwa era, circa 1960s.
