Truly spectacular rare pair of antique hand carved, gessoed and polychromed 19th century winged cherubs or angels (some might consider them santos).
Each figure has glass eyes, is draped in a red cloth and is standing on a pale blue green cloud-like base. Most likely are Spanish or Italian and would have come out of a church.

All arms appear to be cracked at shoulder connection and … moreConsidering their age, the figures are in wonderful period condition. All arms appear to be cracked at shoulder connection and at elbow, but I don’t know as if they have actually been broken. Surprisingly, all fingers are intact. There is wear to the paint and gesso in places as to be expected. It is hard to tell, but I think one of the glass eyes may be cracked. less
