Vintage Framed Trogonoptera Brookiana Birdwing Butterfly in wooden frame and encased in glass. Measures 9x8x2". The butterflies wingspan is 5" wide.
This male Birdwing Butterfly specimen is native to the tropical rainforests of the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Natuna and some islands west of Sumatra (Banyak, Simeulue, Batu and Mentawai).
The wings of the males are black with an iridescent metallic green pattern consisting of 7-toothed, triangular spots on the two forewings, which combine to form a band, and smaller spots on the smaller hind wings.
The head is bright red and the body is black with red spots.
