This desk set includes two cut-glass inkwells … Read more Late 19th Century Neoclassical gray marble standish with double inkwells and pounce pot. This desk set includes two cut-glass inkwells with conical brass lids atop brass frames. The attached centerpiece bowl, or pounce pot, would have been used for holding a ground material known as "pounce" for absorbing excess ink from the parchment and to help with faster drying. The pounce material was typically made from ground pumice or dried cuttlefish bones. The gray marble stand rests on brass bun feet and expertly carved to hold a quill or ink pen. See less
