The Buddha statue has been gilded in 24ct gold leaf; Thais traditionally impress gold leaf upon Buddha images as an act of respect and devotion, especially on special dates of the Buddhist calendar. The gold gild has worn off in places over time. The coloration and patina on this figure is extraordinary.
