In very fine gilt wood frames, this lovely set of antique botanical lithographs comes from the published series known as … Read more In very fine gilt wood frames, this lovely set of antique botanical lithographs comes from the published series known as the “Orchid Album” by British artist John Nugent Fitch (1840-1927). The plates were published in several different volumes between 1872 and 1897. Fitch was a scholarly investigator of botanical knowledge and a member of the Linnaean Society of London. He delved into the details of taxonomy as seen in these fine examples of individual orchid species, hand colored in shades of orange and fiery reds, within layered matting enhanced by hand painted filage in gold, blue and green. Good antique condition with light toning to the paper. Fantastic 20th century framing in very good condition.
