Ferdinand Elchinger, son of the Elchinger Céramistes dynasty, which had been producing ceramics in Souffleheim, Alsace, since 1834. Inspired by Art Deco and Bauhaus, Fernand Elchinger developed the modern and abstract forms of his ceramic vessels over the years, transforming them from the Elchinger Céramistes' original purely functional objects into works of art at the cutting edge of his time.

The signature "Elchinger France" is located at the bottom of the vase base (see images). This vase is a special piece, as its color design is reminiscent of a series of vases produced by the Elchinger Céramistes in the 1930s. The speckled decoration of the vase and the creamy white and brown interior stand out from the otherwise typical color scheme of Elchinger vases from the 1950s, making this piece particularly remarkable.
