A rare original c.1785 copperplate engraved map of the Roman Empire by renowned Venetian cartographer Antonio Zatta, titled 'Romanum Imperium Occidentale et Orientale' (Western and Eastern Roman Empire.) Printed in Venice and beautifully hand-colored, the map features classical iconography in its decorative cartouche and depicts the expanse of the Roman Empire across Europe, North Africa, and Asia Minor. Framed in a 20th century silvered wood frame, this piece combines historical significance with timeless aesthetic appeal.
It measures 20" in width by 16" in height. It is in good vintage condition as shown in the photographs, with obvious wear from the decades to the map itself. There is toning, some foxing, a minor water mark on the bottom left corner, etc... All of this really adds character and charm to this nearly 250 year old map.
