From his work titled Traité des Armes, published in 1740, these fine original copperplate engravings illustrate various positions and techniques of the art of “l’escrime,” intended as a manual for the French army. They are hand colored in gouache, with bold French text the top of each. Plate marks are visible on all plates. The framing is of exceptional quality, gilt frames surround chocolate matting which is further embellished with layers of marbelized and gold filage. All in very good antique condition, very light wear to the frames, normal minor signs of age, toning and artisanal variation to the prints themselves.
