A richly hand-painted and gilded English porcelain plate, attributed to Spode, dating to circa 1800. The plate features a vibrant neoclassical design typical of the Regency period, with alternating floral panels and geometric red-orange borders accented in gilt. A scroll-molded shell form at the top serves as a striking ornamental crest, framing a floral bouquet.
The center is decorated with elegant gilt festoons and neoclassical motifs, radiating outward to panels of hand-painted florals in vivid blues, purples, and greens, separated by diamond and swirl patterns.
The underside bears a later overglaze Sèvres-style mark, likely added to enhance its continental appeal in the 19th or early 20th century. This practice was not uncommon at the time, and the plate’s form, palette, and decorative style are entirely consistent with early Spode or English porcelain production.
