The "Kurul" chair, attributed to Danish architect and furniture designer Henning Kjærnulf in the 1960s, is a striking example of mid-century Scandinavian design that draws inspiration from ancient Roman furniture.
The term "Kurul" originates from the Latin sella curulis, referring to a folding stool used by high-ranking Roman officials. This design was later revisited during the Renaissance and Regency periods. Kjærnulf reimagined this historical form, transforming it into a modern, non-folding lounge chair that blends classical elements with contemporary aesthetics. Unmarked.
