A 1924 etching by the Scottish artist James McBey (1883-1959). This etching depict a man and woman sitting in the lower portion of the composition with the rest of the top a blank expressionless sky. The piece is signed in pen to the lower right and sits in a gold tone frame with a white mat.
A self-taught Scottish artist specializing in printmaking, McBey showed his work first in the Goupil Gallery in 1911. He later was appointed an official war artist for the Palestine Expeditionary force in 1916 and he was named among the "Modern Masters of Etching" in the 1920s. His work is included in the collections of the Imperial War Museum, the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Boston Public Library, and the National Gallery of Art among others.
