Mark Catesby’s "The Wampum Snake with Red Lily" is a hand-colored etching featured in his renowned work, The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands. This piece is a vivid example of Catesby’s careful study of the plants and animals of the Americas. It presents a coiled eastern mudsnake—commonly referred to as the wampum snake—alongside a finely rendered pine lily.
