Fairfield Porter ( 1907 - 1975 ) was an American painter and art critic. He is known for producing socially relevant artworks, although the subjects would change, he produced Realist work in a Modernist style throughout his career. he was both criticized and revered for his commitment to continuing his representational style in the midst of The Abstract Expressionist Movement of The Mid 20th Century.

His painterly vision, which encompasses a fascination with nature and the ability to reveal extraordinariness in ordinary life, was heavily indebted to the French painters Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. His subjects were primarily of landscapes, domestic interiors, and portraits of family, friends and fellow artists, many were set in and around the family homes in Maine and Southampton New York. Artworks by Porter are included in the collections of many prestigious museums.
