Antique figured maple side chair showcasing beautiful bird’s-eye and tiger maple grain, a shaped backsplat, curved crest rail, saber-style legs and woven cane seat. Federal-inspired furniture favored lighter, highly figured American woods, and bird’s-eye maple became especially prized during the 19th century for its distinctive swirling grain. Based on its form, construction and aged surface, this chair appears to date to the mid-to-late 1800s, likely American made. An elegant accent chair for traditional, grandmillennial, English country, Americana or collected interiors.
