"Nativity" Modernist Landscape Screenprint in Ink on Paper
Whimsical modern landscape silkscreen print of the nativity scene by San Francisco, California artist James A. Pritchard (American, 20th Century). This piece depicts the well-known Christian Nativity scene, complete with wise men approaching on camels and a backdrop of the city of Bethlehem. On the right side of the composition, Joseph and Mary stand at a manger, with farm animals nearby.
Numbered, titled, signed, and dated along the bottom edge:

James Pritchard received a Master's degree from Brigham Young University in Fine Art and started his career as a master printmaker. Later on he would transition to painting and live in a building full of artists deep in the heart of San Francisco and develop many relationships. His prints were held in high regard and so too were his paintings of the San Franciscan cityscape which were always completed in vivid color. He would often paint portraits of his friends and their family because he had a kind heart, and one could easily tell this from the way he would laugh, or impart knowledge such as impromptu jazz piano lessons.
