This AMAZING floor lamp is, without question, the most outrageous 1910 vintage floor lamp I've ever seen, let alone owned! The shade was made in Chicago, as marked on the part that sits under the finial, and one presumes the lamp was made there, too (the Crest Company). Chicago was only rivaled by New York during this period for manufacturing the best lighting in the country.
Originally silver-plated. Most of the plating has dulled in the last 100 years; however, a lot of the two-tone aspect of the metalwork (brass/silver) still remains, as indicated in the pictures of the mythical lions, their wings gold/brass and their bodies dulled silver.
Would you believe this lamp weighs about 33 pounds, not including the shade?! We're talking serious materials -- you know, old-fashioned top materials, the way things used to be 100 years ago. The marble comprising most of the base provides the mainstay of that weight. And that marble, I might add, is in stellar condition as well as being beautiful.
The wiring is in excellent, working order, and there are, as you can see, four Benjamin sockets at the top. In other words, you have the excellent option of using the lamp chair- or couch-side to illuminate your reading material. Or, just use one bulb in a darkened room for atmosphere. You'll understand that when you see that bulb as the only light in the room -- it will make you wish you'll been born in 1890. No, AI is not making this up.
The shade is a work of art by itself -- huge, with tremendous presence. The fabric has been compromised by exposure to "atmospheric debris" during its long tenure, particularly on the top. But there's life left in it, depending on your standards (the shade sits so high up it's not likely that you'll be looking at the compromised material on top). It would be interesting to have the shade's frame recovered, always an option.
Lots of time and packing expertise will be employed to get this safely to you. The shade will go in its own box, of course.
Dimensions: 72 inches high, to the top of the finial. The feet on the base measure about 8 1/4 across. The shade measures about 24 inches wide!
Strike now, you'll never see another one!!
