Boldly sculpted and glazed by one of the masters of French Art Deco, this vase is dominated by a seated … Read more Boldly sculpted and glazed by one of the masters of French Art Deco, this vase is dominated by a seated female nude figure, her scarfed head bowed and her legs crossed, glazed in a rich terra cotta hue, in strong bas relief. The surround is a lovely jade-green, mottled green glaze. The bottom shows the signature of Edouard Cazaux, one of the masters of Art Deco ceramics and sculpture in 1920s and 30s France. He studied at the Beaux Arts School in Sèvres as a young man, and participated in the famous Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (which later gave the Art Deco style its name) in 1925, as part of the "Evolution of Style" exhibition in the Arthur Goldscheider pavilion. Old chips have been professionally repaired and restored. See less
