This is a handsome original oil on canvas painting by Manes Lichtenberg, and a copy of Pissarro’s original rural landscape in a wonderful antique baroque-style carved wood, heavily gessoed and weathered frame. Signed inverso in pencil by Lichtenberg on the canvas’s wood frame.

Manes Lichtenberg was born in New York City in 1920. His formal training began at the Art Students League in New York and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in France. Art students often copy masterworks as a way of learning.

Lichtenberg’s style is said to be a unique blend of realism and impressionism, which has gained him recognition throughout the United States and Europe. He has won many awards, including the Gold Medal of Honor of the Allied Artists of America. In addition, he has received the Silver Medal in the International Prix Maurice Utrillo in Paris and the Bronze Medal for the Prix Othon Friesz.
