Dimensions: 28 ¾” H x 22 ¾” W x 1 ¼” D
An original textile sample for approval (referred to in the industry as a "strike off") from France, 19th century. The delicate work is preserved in an antique gold gilt frame and antique wavy glass, recently mounted on archival-quality matting. This memento from the design process of creating a new fabric pattern or colorway challenges the definition between fine art and decorative art by treating the conceptual mockup as an original work in itself. Handpainted on paper drawn in a grid, lovely pink plumes on a red background are both delicate and bold; one can see the technical precision required to translate this spirited design on a larger scale for the loom. One small cutting of fabric is included to the left of the image, with the technical aspects of the design written on a label to the upper right of the image. Strung with a wire on the back, ready for your interior. Please view the image gallery for a closer look at all the details.
