Queen Anne Walnut Lowboy – From the Estate of David Cornwell (John le Carré)
An elegant early 18th-century English lowboy dating to the Queen Anne/early Georgian period, circa 1710–1740. Crafted in richly figured walnut, the rectangular top features a crossbanded border and a softly worn surface with exceptional depth of color. Below are three drawers—two short over one long—retaining period brass batwing handles and oak-lined interiors.
The shaped apron is distinctively double-ogeed and flows into cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, all displaying the refined proportions and gentle curves characteristic of Queen Anne design.
What elevates this piece beyond its fine craftsmanship and graceful silhouette is its distinguished provenance: it comes from the personal collection of acclaimed British spy and author David Cornwell, better known by his pen name John le Carré. The lowboy was housed in his longtime Cornwall residence, Tregiffian Cottage, and was sold in an estate auction conducted by Roseberys London. A copy of the original auction invoice will be provided to the buyer.
