The piece is made of heavy cast iron with an honest patina with lots of age and rust. It depicts a French mariner on top holding a rope with many nautical items below including an anchor and oar. It looks like paint has been added to the figure over the years. There is an illegible maker's mark on the reverse (photo 8). A truly fantastic piece illustrating French nautical history. See less
