This untitled surreal still life drawing of a seashell and feather on blocks of wood with a butterfly featuring a clock in the middle of its body is by Polish American painter Witold Gordon (1885-1968,) signed and dated ‘38. Witold Gordon attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris before moving to New York in the early 20th century. He was a well known modernist known for his murals, poster designs and book illustrations. Once here in the U.S. he worked on the design of Radio City Music Hall where 2 of his murals are exhibited. He also designed a 600 ft mural for the 1939 World’s Fair.
This pencil drawing on paper is in good original condition with wear consistent with age and use.
