A vibrant mid-century modernist still life oil painting that captures a calm interior moment with a strong sense of geometry and structure, by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The composition depicts a sculptural white chalice and a cluster of green apples arranged on a deep-set window ledge, overlooking a lush countryside scene.
The composition is both minimal and expressive, with bold simplifications of form and an emphasis on flat planes of colour. The palette is rich and harmonious – cool greens and blues dominate the landscape beyond the window, while warm yellows and lime greens bring depth and contrast to the foreground. The sky is rendered in a serene powder blue, adding an atmosphere of quiet clarity.

The brushwork is confident and textured, with visible strokes that provide a tactile quality to the foliage and surfaces. The artist has used broad, sweeping motions for the background trees, and more sculptural, deliberate application for the chalice and fruit. The overall effect is one of elegant stillness, where the boundary between inside and outside is both physical and painterly.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs and marks present.
