The Pop Art poster is published by The Kestner-Gesellschaft Museum in Hannover Germany. Printed in 1970 in Germany in an unnumbered limited edition by TH : Schaefer, Hannover on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an iconic artwork image originally created by Hockney in 1966 titled " Portrait of Nick Wilder ".

David Hockney ( B. 1937 ) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He is an important contributor to The Pop Art Movement of the 1960's. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of The 20th Century. His artworks have commanded greater popular acclaim than any other Contemporary British artist. The Pop Art Expressionist artworks have been the subject of more than 400 solo exhibitions. Art works by Hockney are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.

" Portrait of Nick Wilder " is one of the finest of the famous series of California pool paintings that first established Hockney's international reputation in the Mid-1960's. The iconic artwork convincingly conveys the essence of the " California Dreaming " good-life. The artwork was created when Hockney permanently first settled in Hollywood in 1966, prompting a dramatic transformation in his art and style of painting that began to define a new unique vision of the American West-Coast.

The iconic portrait of Nick Wilder depicts Hockney's friend and neighbor, the artist, art dealer and gallery owner serenely immersed in the waters of the pool at the apartment building on Larabee Street in Hollywood where the two painters lived. Nick Wilder seems, like Hockney, not able to believe his luck in being where he is, struck by the lifestyle and freedom of America in the 1960's. Hockney's paintings of this era of California scenery portrayed plain frontal views of architecture, but the subject which became the most significant contributor to his fame as an artist was the swimming pool.

The rare out of print framed exhibition poster print measures 16 3/4" W X 23 5/8" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed detail matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean vintage condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling.
