This 248-page hardcover/jacket was published in 1993 (First Edition) by The University of New Mexico Press. This book surveys the remarkable career of Karl Struss, a master of both still and motion picture photography. Originally from New York City, Struss was deeply influenced by Pictorialism and studied under Clarence White. His early photographs were recognized by Alfred Stieglitz, who featured them in a 1910 exhibition and a 1912 issue of "Camera Work.". The book includes many of Struss' early photos - an his exploration of both New York and Europe in the early 1900s.It also notes his innovative use of the autochrome process for color photography. The book then revisits his move to Hollywood, where he captured the images of both movie stars and film scenic landscapes. He was an early cinematographer winning the first Academy Award for cinematography for the 1927 film, "Sunrise." There are many b/w photos of early movie stills and movie stars, like Mae West. The coffee-table book is in very good, clean, bright and unmarked condition. The only note is the small library prop stamp on the inside back cover. This book is an excellent reference and collectible Hollywood film and cinematography book for serious cinema buffs. It will be sent, carefully packed, with tracking. See less
