Pair of Antique Gilt Bronze Allegorical Figural Andiron Chenets
Pair of chiseled bronze firedogs after a model by Jacques Caffieri representing the allegory of the arts, in a rococo spirit they present putti one holding a book and a stylus and the other a hammer, a chisel and a female bust. They thus symbolize literature and sculpture.
These are attributed to French and Co gallery in New York between 1929 and 1960 and a pair of this model, belongs to the Wallace Collection in London (F279-280).
