We have the honor to offer you an exceptional xylogravure matrix entitled "Le Chemineau", produced in France in 1978-1979. This rare piece represents a tramp, a character typical of French peasant culture of the 19th or early 20th century. The tramp, a figure often associated with the itinerant life and the rural soul of the time, is magnificently captured here in a graphic style of great force.
Characteristics of the work:
Dimensions:
Height: 100 cm
Width: 60 cm
Depth: 3cm
Period: 1978
Technique: Xylogravure (wood engraving), a traditional technique allowing remarkable depth and expressiveness.
Monogram: The work bears a distinctive monogram, "DR" (?) surmounted by a fish, the artist has not been identified.
Style: The work is in a style reminiscent of that of Maurice Albe, an artist recognized for his treatment of the human figure and the peasant scene, particularly in the first decades of the 20th century. The intensity of the line, the realistic representation of the tramp, and the striking composition evoke the influence of this renowned artist.
of the work:
This woodcut matrix depicts chemineau, typical of the French working class and itinerant peasants. The character, both robust and marked by the wear and tear of rural life, is highlighted, embodying the strength and resilience of the French peasant people of the time.
The work seems to want to capture the essence of these men, between shadow and light, in a representation which combines the harshness of daily life with a deeply moving form of humanity.
State :
The work is in good general condition, having been carefully preserved over the years. It is important to note that the matrix, as an old and fragile object, bears natural signs of wear, but remains in remarkable condition, especially for a work of this type.
