A wonderful example of midcentury craftsmanship, where bamboo and rattan are perfectly blended.
Louis Sognot was a French designer best known for his elegant furniture made from a combination of rattan and wood. Sognot was influenced by Art Deco and Cubist aesthetics, giving his work a unique stylistic touch while still being usable. Born on May 25, 1892 in Paris, France, Sognot studied at École Bernard-Pablissy before working as a designer at the Au Printemps department store in Paris in 1919. The designer became a founding member of the Union des Artistes Decoroteurs. He died in 1970 in Paris, France. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
