This lovely-to-look-at Hanakago (花籠)-style of basket was handcrafted in the manner of a Japanese flower basket which is traditionally used in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. Ideal for use in Ikebana or simply as a décor accent, fill it with fresh (or faux) blooms as a tablescape centerpiece at your next gathering for an extraordinary display. As a décor piece, it displays well on its own but will also complement other baskets you may already own as part of a grouping. This basket was handwoven by a basket artisan in the Philippines sometime in the 1980s. In excellent condition with minimal wear. There is no makers signature or mark. It was handcrafted from rattan weavers in a zig zag or herringbone-type of over and under weave, quite striking! Split bent bamboo circular platform on the underside adds a nice boost of height to the overall profile. The tall slender handle is also fashioned from bent bamboo wrapped in rattan. Color is a rich tobacco and umber hue. This beauty measures 17” high from handle tip to bottom (9½” high excluding the handle) x 11” x 11” W/D. On the interior the opening is 8¼” diameter x 8½” high x 10½” wide; weight 14 oz. For a collector of extraordinary baskets, this beauty will be a great add to that collection or the perfect gift for someone who is.
