Benches, stools and small chairs, for me, have always been somewhat of an accessory piece around our home; you can never have too many. A good one fits into any space! Small or large, in and out of doors, you can move it around from room-to-room, space-to-space, to meet the need of the moment, whether it been seating or décor. This diminutive Jacobean-inspired hand-tied rush seat footstool, with its bobbin and baluster ring and cup turned legs and stretchers was handcrafted from oak wood. Mortise and tenon joinery provides structural integrity to the frame; H-cross stretcher adds stability. Rich mahogany stain and natural wax finish still allows the natural wood grain pattern to show through. This beauty measures 13½” x 11¼” x 9¼” W/D/H; seat to floor 9”; seat 12½” x 10¾” W/D; weight 3 lbs. 13 oz. In overall excellent condition with age-appropriate wear that includes scuffs to the stain finish. One side has a few missing strands of rush (see photos 6 & 7) which does not affect its beauty or utility. Unknown maker. We believe this cutie was handcrafted in England sometime in the 1920s to early 1930s. Fabulous looking with an element of rustic charm that will most certainly complement any décor or furniture style you may have in your home. Use it as a plant riser or for its intended purpose, footstool.
