Beautiful, colorful design and a great example of Mexican Folk Art male and female wood sculpture book ends, Circa 1950s.
The set is hand-carved from wood and depicts a sleeping Mexican peasant couple sleeping under the shade of their sombreros, their faces are covered by their hats.
The man is wearing a white outfit with a red sash, and the woman is wearing a colorful red skirt and white peasant blouse.
They are wonderfully detailed, hand carved and hand painted set of "Wooden Siesta Bookends".
These are lightweight carved wooden sleeping Mexican peasant couple bookend set, male and female Mexican couple wearing traditional costumes with hats and taking a nap, the top hat open.
These would look fabulous on a book shelf and would make a great gift.
This caricature of a sleeping Mexican, became widely popular in the United States in the mid-twentieth century.
Hand-crafted in Mexico.
Each one measures 6.5 inches tall and 4" x 4" inches at the base.Size:
