This original X-Large poster was produced on the occasion of the Andy Warhol Series and Singles exhibition held in 2000 at the Fondation Beyeler near Basel, Switzerland. The featured artwork, Shot Blue Marilyn, is one of a series of five silkscreen-on-canvas paintings created by Warhol in 1964. Each piece in the series was rendered in a distinct color—red, orange, light blue(this poster), sage blue, and turquoise—using an exacting and labor-intensive silkscreen technique that produced exceptionally vivid and luminous images. Even at the time of their creation, these five paintings were recognized as some of Warhol’s more significant works. Today, they are widely regarded as iconic images of postwar art. Recently, their cultural and artistic importance was further underscored when one of the five, Shot Sage Blue Marilyn, sold at Christie’s for a record-breaking price, making it the most expensive 20th-century artwork ever sold at auction.
This large-scale poster was prominently displayed on billboards around the Fondation Beyeler during the exhibition.
