This exceptional Spode bone china soup tureen and cover, pattern number 1741, presents a vibrant "Rock & Tree" design, a variation of the Imari style introduced by Spode in 1811. The piece features a light blue ground from which a dark blue flowering tree ascends, accompanied by stylised polychrome botanical elements.

The tureen base is adorned with alternating panels: one series exhibiting gilt foliate motifs and orange floral embellishments, and the other displaying a dark blue ground detailed with gilt leaves and orange and white flower heads. Correspondingly, the tureen cover exhibits similar panel decoration along its rim. The handles and finial are executed in gilt, fashioned in the form of serpents, adding a distinctive sculptural element.

This meticulously hand-painted pattern reflects a direct emulation of 18th-century Oriental Export porcelain prototypes, demonstrating the period's fascination with and adaptation of Eastern decorative arts.
