He took part in the creation of the Almanach of the Blaue Reiter group initiated by the Russian Kandinsky, a mythical work that brought together for the first time works of Oceanic art, children's drawings and so-called popular art. In 1916, in Switzerland, he participated with Tzara and others in the beginning of the Dada movement, at the Café Voltaire in Zurich. The aim of these subversive artists was to awaken consciousness through art, to transform life. Arp is a protean artist: poet, writer, sculptor, painter, engraver. In 1954, he won the Grand Prix for sculpture at the Venice Biennale. In 1958, the Museum of Modern Art in New York gave him a solo exhibition. This was his consecration. The work we are proposing is taken from Arp's last book, Soleil Recerclé, which brings together poems and illustrations by the artist and is much sought after by collectors. It is a woodcut, rarely used by artists because of the constraints of the material, which is more resistant to the artist's gesture than other techniques. This practice was revived by the German Expressionists at the beginning of the 20th century. LCD4467 This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
