The front plate of the helmet bears the Classic French fireman symbol of a flaming grenade within the central shield insignia flanked by an olive branch and oak branch.

The small channel on the left side would have held a plume when the firemen were on parade, circa 1900.

A three part banner above reads Sapeurs, Pompiers, De Hermes, which in English translates Firemen of De Hermes.

Hermes is a commune located in the Oise department in the Hauts-de-France region. Hermes is a small town with a rich history and is close to towns such as Beauvais and Creil. See less
