This Georgian period Armchair has unusually large proportions both in height and width. It is a wingback, with arms scrolled outward, and simple claw and ball feet, also turned outward. It has a strong rake to the back. We believe it is Walnut or Mahogany, but are not certain. It is very heavy. The chair is upholstered, and we have never removed the covering to examine the frame underneath.
We bought the Armchair from friends in the 1970’s. They had spent time in Ireland and England, and brought back a number of antique items. We think it is Irish but it could also be English.
The size and elegant shape of this chair gives it a special presence; it stands out in a room.
Dimensions: Height: 47" from top of back to floor

As noted above we have not taken off the upholstery to examine the frame, which seems sturdy when examined externally. Several years ago we noticed that one foot was wobbly; we subsequently had the legs tightened. This Armchair, with its fine lines and age, should probably be examined carefully from the inside out and re-upholstered. It could be a knock-out. We are only selling it because we are downsizing and moving to a smaller space. less
