A lovely antique Royal Vienna porcelain cabinet plate features a transfer-ware portrait of Mrs. Richard Brinsley Sheridan, originally painted in oil on canvas by the renowned 18th-century artist Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788). Gainsborough, one of Britain’s most celebrated painters, captured the likeness of Elizabeth Ann Linley (1754–1792), a gifted English musician, in this iconic portrait. The artwork depicts her seated beneath a tree in a natural landscape, framed by a cobalt blue border richly decorated with gold foliate patterns and raised beadwork.
Marked on the base, this plate exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship and quality associated with Royal Vienna porcelain.
