Fine piece of pottery of unknown age and origin. The design and style suggests Aesthetic Period of the late 19th century, possibly from Japan or England.
This is a super decorative vase having a globular form, adorned with a naturalistic, applied decoration of a palm leaf or fern frond, accented by a knotted rope and wee mouse, sitting at the shoulder. The remaining surface is covered in a sponge applied glaze of cool grey and black. Unusual and striking.
Measures 11.5"X 11.75"X 11.25". No chips or cracks, some footwear. Unmarked, undated.
