Offered is a set of 2 hand-painted and burnished glaze vintage 1960s bird (toucans?) figurines made in Tonalá, Jalisco Mexico, … Read more Offered is a set of 2 hand-painted and burnished glaze vintage 1960s bird (toucans?) figurines made in Tonalá, Jalisco Mexico, a province renowned for its earth-tone clay and for all the pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. Perched on pedestals, these appear to be the usual quails or pigeons featured in Tonalá ceramics, but there are clearly toucan like noses on these beauties. Signed "Mexico" on the bottom. Created with a deep beige putty undercoat and their backs are embellished with the native flowers of the region painted in cinnamon, terracotta, with gray leaves, and flourishes on its feathers in white, black, and gray.
