The lithograph print is published by Shorewood Publishers Inc., printed in The United States in 1960 in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an artwork image originally created by Rauschenberg in 1955 titled " Rebus ", collection of the artist, S.P.A.D.E.M.

This is a rare opportunity for true Rauschenberg fans and collectors as this coveted image lithograph print is long out of print and very scarce to find.

Lithographs issued in the 1960's by Shorewood Publishing represent the gold standard of 20th Century American fine art printing. These lithographs were painstakingly produced to match the colorimetry of the originals, with the most accurate possible detail and subtlety. paper and inks were carefully chosen for the most felicitous effect.

Robert Rauschenberg ( 1925 - 2008 ) is recognized as one of the 20th Century's most influential and prolific artists. He is credited with binding the gap between movements of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. A pioneer of the " Transfer Drawing " process, he experimented in technologically sophisticated combinations of photographs an drawings. He is highly regarded as a Modern master of mixed media and collage. The works are layered and transcend the two dimensional formant for the viewer. Art works by Rauschenberg are included in the collections of more than 70 of the world's most prestigious museums.

" Rebus " belongs to a body of work in which Rauschenberg integrated three dimensional objects with two dimensional paintings. Made from layers of everyday materials found in the neighborhood of his Lower Manhattan studio ( comic strips, political posters, news photos, children's drawings, fabric, graffiti, and mass reproduction of Botticelli art ). Created in 1955, the three panel, nearly 11 foot long " Rebus " is considered an important work from a time when the artist's works were becoming a more literal look at the urban environment.

Rauschenberg himself said he meant Rebus to be a record of the immediate environment and time. After more than 40 years of waiting, The Museum of Modern Art New York finally acquired this Abstract Expressionist masterpiece to their permanent collection in 2005. With the addition of " Rebus ". The Modern now has one of the world's most important holdings by Rauschenberg. " Rebus " is one of the most celebrated paintings in the museum's collection.

The rare out of print Mid Century Modern framed Abstract Expressionist fine art lithograph print measures 31 1/2" W x 24 3/4" H X 1" D. It is custom framed with glass in a classic Modern natural maple wood satin finish museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent " like new " condition. The print is in excellent " like new " very clean condition with very light signs of handling. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed.
