This is an absolutely gorgeous and near-perfect brass and metal plant stand produced by National Brass and Iron Works (NB&IW) in the late 1800's in New Jersey. According to internet sources, The N.B.& I.W. was founded in 1891. They produced especially high quality brass and iron objet d'art until 1911.
Please assess the beautiful details of this unique treasure. The feet are in the shape of eagle (or perhaps another type bird) claws, and gilded on the ends of the claws. The metal work is in a elegant Victorian style, and gilded in several areas. I will let the photos speak for themselves as to the beauty and quality of this piece. It is very sturdy and clean. The 10" x 10" piece of onyx insert at the top of the plant has either a discoloration (natural for stone such as onyx) or perhaps a surface level crack -- in any case it is quite sturdy and would be hidden when a plant is on the stand.
The beautifully scrollwork top is square and measures 14 3/4" x 14 3/4". The insert for a piece of polished stone/marble/other is 10" x 10". It stands 30" tall, not including the additional height of the piece of onyx which will be included. The measurement from the outside of one foot to the outside of the adjacent foot is 15". It is quite heavy-duty, weighing in at a bit under 20 lbs.
