Presentation of the theme wine was an extremely important drink in the middle ages: more wine was drunk than water because the latter was unreliable and a vector of disease. The vine is therefore a very present element in the landscape and can be found in the countryside as well as in the city. If the grape pressing scene is depicted on the left against a conventional background of a thousand flowers, the harvest scene is depicted on the right in a natural setting and therefore more suggestive of an idealized countryside.
